Planning a cross country trip is not an exact science. We did our best to plan a course of action.
After twelve hours of driving, and covering more than half the distance, we came to the conclusion that three and a half days was too much time to go approximately 1800 miles. Even with extended stops. Our new course of action – Slow down. With two and a half days till the convention we needed to kill time, and minimize expenses. It was time to take a break and regroup. My traveling companion, and fellow AMSOIL dealer, Scott Carr has family in Iowa – about seven hours from our final destination. We reset the navigator and headed to the heart of this great country. We received a warm welcome, at Scott's brothers place, in Sioux City, Iowa. The visit to Iowa was my first. I was overwhelmed by the feeling of this place. It was everything I had ever pictured this country being about; massive farms, hogs, chickens, cattle, kids playing baseball and delicious barbecue. Top that off with down-to-earth people who make you feel welcomed and part of the family. I'm more than happy our planning was flawed, and we were able to make this visit. Even the best laid plans can go awry, but sometimes the detour is better than the plan itself. |
